Katie Mitchell, a 16-year old girl from a small town near Derry, New Hampshire, never expected she would meet Jon Scrivens, a boy her same age from Concord, New Hampshire. All Katie wanted was to make a few good friends this summer and learn new things — never did she imagine she would end up sitting on a soft blue hammock surrounded by freshly watered grass, under a bright sunny sky lying next to a boy with deep blue eyes who cared for her and made her laugh.

The Summer Times interviewed the pair separately and asked both a set of questions.

Katie

1. How did you meet him?

Well, he was hanging out with a few people I had met during the first week. So I immediately noticed him because he was very loud and outgoing. We just started talking and it felt really natural.

2. What will you miss most about him?

That’s a hard question… It’ll be difficult not seeing him all day. I don’t know, I guess I’ll miss him making me laugh.

3. How does he make you feel?

I feel happy and comfortable. Even when we’re not talking it’s just like comfortable silence.

4. What is your favorite memory with him?

The time we met, we climbed a fence to get a better view of the fireworks. I ripped a hole in my leggings in the process…

5. Will you continue dating after Exeter Summer is over?

Yes. We’ve talked about this. We’re willing to drive half an hour to see each other, although we both know that we’re really busy so it might not work.

Jon

Her smile. She has a really nice smile.

How does she make you feel?

Really happy. Whenever I’m feeling down she brightens my day.

What is your favorite memory with her?

Will you continue dating after Exeter Summer is over?

Yes.

Mia Sieh is a 15 years old girl from the Philippines who came to Phillips Exeter in hopes of making new friends and learning new things, while Lenny Chen is 16 years old from Minnesota. The pair has been together for around two and a half weeks at Exeter, after being introduced to each other by a friend. You can spot them holding hands all over Exeter — it’s genuinely the cutest.
